Lisa Ratigan, LMSW
LMSW - Grand Valley State University
At the heart of my work is a belief Carl R. Rogers expressed so beautifully:
“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, ‘soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.’ I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” That perspective guides everything I do.
My approach is person-centered—I meet people exactly where they are, with openness, curiosity, and without judgment. I trust that each person’s growth unfolds in its own unique way. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, based on the understanding that our thoughts shape how we move through the world. While shifting our thinking can’t change every situation, it can change how we experience challenges, helping them feel more manageable and less overwhelming.
I work with individuals and couples, addressing a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, and personal development. I strive to create a supportive environment where people feel heard, understood, and valued. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they build insight, strengthen resilience, and move toward a path that feels right for them.
